A to Z Challenge : Moving and Writing

My Max Brenner Hug-a-Mug of hot chocolate.

I've done it for 3 years and loved it, but this year too much is happening. We all know of the time drain that is the A - Z -- writing the posts is the easy part, but there is a lot of visiting/commenting to do.

What I'm doing in April -- firstly, I'm moving house. You all know what a joy that is. I'm moving from our inner-city Brisbane apartment across the river to a townhouse Heritage style, in West End, a very trendy avante garde suburb, full of great restaurants, book shops, organic food stores and overall a great vibe. I'll have my own office for writing and teaching. So the move, although exhausting, will be worthwhile.

I've also set myself the challenge of completing edits on my novel, Fijian Princess, and have it ready for submission by the end of April. Luckily it's school holidays for the first two weeks of April in Australia, so a little less drain on my time.

I am writing my short stories for writing competitions. My Writing Group encourages writing for competitions. I usually choose one and focus on that, otherwise I end up entering none! I'm currently happy with my story idea for a 'homelessness' theme, due end of April.

I will also be posting occasionally -- I'll be back for the Insecure Writers Support Group tomorrow and may post once a week.

So this year I'm not in with all the excitement of the A - Z, but I'm clapping in the background.

  • If you'd like me to come visit you (I want to visit my friends once a week to catch up on their posts), please leave a comment. Makes it easier to comment on my phone when I'm in transit--which is where I do most of my blog commenting.

All the best A - Zers!

Nope, moving is never an easy thing. Just finished helping one daughter move. . .

Good luck in the new place, sounds very nice if it's heritage style, and has a good community feel to it.

I'm not doing the A to Z either. Just visiting some of those who are.

Yep. The A to Z is a big time commitment - quite apart from the posting itself. Sounds like you have a busy month lined up. Good luck with the move.

Good luck with your move. I almost dropped out, but had six days written and thought, oh hell, why not. We'll see if I make it to the end, but you're right commenting takes up the most time. And yet it's hard not to visit and see what others are doing. I figure I'll do it on breaks, and hope I keep up!

Sounds like a lovely new home. Let others do the heavy lifting.

I truly hate moving. It is never fun. Hope all goes as smoothly for you as it can! :-)

Good luck with the house move! Good luck with your edits and entries for competitions. This is my second year of A - Z and it is so much bigger this year than last.

Best of luck with your moving. I did all that last summer. Now I just have to finish rearranging the furniture. lol

One of the good things about moving is that you get rid of clutter. I am of the opinion we should to this every10 years for that reason alone.

I could never do the A to Z challenge, as it is too much of a commitment and I am too lazy. However, I enjoy reading those of the people I know who have taken this on. I'd rather be a cheerleader than a player in this situation.

Awesome. You've definitely got a plate full--maybe to overflowing. That's all good and dandy, as long as there's some cheese on there. =) Best wishes in your contests/edits/move!

Understandable, Denise! Sorry you won't be participating but in your shoes I might not be either! There is a slight possibility I might be moving house this month too, but with any luck it won't happen till May!

You have a lot of projects that need your attention. And moving will suck every ounce of your energy.

Wow! You have a very full plate, Denise. Moving is a pain, but change is so invigorating, and your new home sounds terrific. Once you're there, it'll be worth it (although you may question that while the move is in progress).

I did the A to Z a couple years ago and signed up again this year. During my off years, I apparently forgot why they call it a challenge. :)

Best of luck with your move and writing projects!

You are busy! But knowing how organised you are, you'll get it all done too.

I really have to think about those competitions, I've done nothing about it so far, good luck with your homeless piece!

Good luck on your move. It sounds like a lovely place you'll be moving to! Also, good luck with the contest you plan on entering. I'm one of those who loves to enter contests, so I know how tricky it can be to get the submission just right!
