Well time really gets away doesn't it? Since a very lovely Christmas I've been flat out tutoring my students in English and have been snowed under. I keep promising myself not to take on too many students but I find it hard to say no. Isn't that one of the bugbears of writing? Finding the time. Although I think I needed a break after the write-fest that was NaNoWrMo. But I've had this nagging voice in my head to get to it again!
I've managed a short story in a suspense genre I haven't toyed with before and am really pleased. Need to get it up onto the computer as it has been written long hand whilst waiting in the local library for students. I'm thinking of getting one of those little computers, half the size of my laptop, so it'd be a lot easier to lug around with all my teaching materials.
Anyway, it isn't all tragic. Teaching is all about learning, and I've learned a lot whilst teaching Sylvia Plath, Walt Whitman et al. These guys sure knew how to put pen to paper.
Travel's my main game, and I'm deserting my students and flying off to New Zealand for a 10 day driving holiday. Used to live there, so really am excited about going back, catching up with dear friends and driving around the beautiful North Island. I'm sure I'll be inspired to set a story in Lord of the Rings country.
Hoping everyone else has been doing better than I have been so far in 2010! Go girls!!
Denise
