ON WRITING

“It’s very easy to quit during the first ten years of writing. Nobody cares whether you write or not, and it’s very hard to write when nobody cares one way or the other. You can’t get fired if you don’t write, and most of the time you don’t get rewarded if you do. But don’t quit.” Andre Dubus

  1. I'm first one here, hooray! Love your Christmas-y header. I have a Christmas memory (memoir) I thought of posting. Don't know if I can do it as part of the Blogfest -- Sigh. It's difficult to keep up with you younger people :) :) :) -- but I'll try to read as many entries as I can. I LOVE Holiday stories! (I'm using this signature link again so it'll take you directly to Blogger, not WordPress. If it doesn't work, let me know.)

    1. Thanks Ann! It'd be great to have your Christmas memory memory. You have until the 21st to post so hope you can manage it amongst all your commitments.

  3. Love the header photo. If something short comes to me, I'll enter. This time of year is so busy for me.

  4. And so say all of us. The busiest, but often the best, time of year. Would be delighted if you popped in an entry Carol.

  5. Awesome :) I'm posting the link on my blog tonight. My excerpt will be a little late as I have to re-write it. I forgot it got lost in the computer changes and stuff.

    Have a good week Denise.

  6. Hello Denise,

I really like the festive banner you've put up! I am signing up early with the blog, will be coming back later with specifics. My post will not be related to Christmas specifically, as my festivals are celebrated a little earlier in the autumn, but the spirit of festivity is the same everywhere. Happy festival season to you and yours!

    Warm regards,
    Nilanjana.

  10. lol I got confused with the term, holiday! At first I was thinking of posting a pic from one of my cruises, then I realised you meant holiday season! hahahahaha! I'm not sure I can post a pic anymore. I still don't have the Christmas tree up!! Meh, I'll think of something. I'll likely post something on 20th. :)

  12. Hmm, your fest looks like fun. A bit time-challenged at the moment with holiday goodies, and we're leaving on the 21st for NO. But, hmm, will see how all opens up.

I smiled from ear to ear when I read your comment on Marcy's post. About the dialect - yes! You got it! Yay! Rings is a snapshot of a difficult period in a (mentally) layered region. A lot of people died. I didn't want the reader to fly in and cruise through. By using dialect the reader had to go through customs, so to speak.

  15. Hi, Denise,

    LOVE your header!

Painting tree branches white ... waiting for them to dry .... then glittering them. I thought I was finished until I put the arrangement together (this is my tree this year... Something different and VERY DESIGNERY... is that a word? lol)... the glass icicles and ornaments weighed down the branches too much and now I have too much space in between them.... EEEEKKKK! So off to the park I went this morning for more....

I need the rest of this week, including the weekend to finish... WHY must I be sooooo INSANE about having everything so designery..... Oops, there's that word again.... LOL.
