Happy Mother's Day! Well, in Australia and America and in your country?

It's Mother's Day In Australia, so Happy Mother's Day! I was quite surprised to learn it is in America also, even though our Father's Day is in a different month (September in Oz.)
Mother's Day is celebrated with great zeal and fanfare around the world, including Australia. For those who dislike hoo ha, I think a special day marks an excellent opportunity to thank and express the deep felt gratitude to one’s mother, the leading lady of the family. These days there are a lot of different family configurations, but there is probably a mum in there somewhere. Mum/Mom should sit back and relax on this particular day, and children (if they're old enough) take up their responsibilities, like bringing Mum burnt toast and sugary tea slopped over the breakfast tray. The little red rose in the chipped coffee cup makes it all extra cute.

My Mum is now passed, so I reflect on our times together on this special day (and every day.) So my days of spoiling my mum are over, sadly.
Mother's Day is an excellent time for children to 'surprise' their mums with gifts and tokens of appreciation. Traditionally, gifting fresh flowers has been considered the best way to articulate the feelings. Being a mum, I am quite taken with a bunch of flowers, especially when accompanied by a box of chocolates and a hand-made card. Going out for lunch is also great, which is what we're doing today. Often mum is given a red rose by the restaurant on Mother's Day.

So, burnt toast, a bunch of flowers, a box of chockies, a lunch at the beach. What could be better? Tell me.

What are you up to for Mother's Day?

Ours was months ago. Something like the start of March. Happy Mothers' Day anyway.

Wow, I'm surprised that the US & Oz share Mother's Day! I've always just supposed that Australia celebrated in March along with Britain.

Enjoy your lunch with the family!

My mom lives in Ft. Collins, about an hour drive from our house. She will be 89 in June and I want to go see her because you never know. Her mother lived to be 104. So I am hopeful. When I was a teenager and my mom had just gone through a divorce that left us broke. I wanted to make her breakfast in bed. I'd never cooked eggs before. We only had two left. In fact, we only had two pieces of bread too. I put the pan on high, added butter and when it was melted cracked the eggs. They exploded, there was egg everywhere. I burned the toast. The only thing to drink was grape pop. So my poor mom had burned toast and grape pop and a funny story.

Happy Mother's Day, Denise.
We also have our Mother's day today.

I lost my mum more than twenty three years ago.

I'm spending it with my daughter, today.
Thanks for the lovely post.

My daughter just phoned. She's at Uni in Brissie, and we spend a few giggly moments remembering the burnt toast and eggs from when she tried to make the day special for me years ago. My son will visit later in the day and hopefully the rain will stop and we'll have a picnic/bbq down by the beach, then go for a walk. I love the other stories people have shared. Enjoy your day Denise. Sue

Happy Mother's Day. It's officially your day there, but we have to wait until tomorrow!

That's such a lovely picture.

I know my daughter was busy planning something for me. We'll get lunch, which will be nice. And house hunting, which will not.

Enjoy your flowers and chocolates + lunch on the beach.

Beautiful post, Denise. I lost my mother some years ago, but a special day of remembrance is very nice.

Enjoy your burnt toast, a memory far better than a five star restaurant.

Mr. Linky is doing his job! I put the profile pic as that was the easiest. I'll e-mail you about posting the FF, ie, the where of it all. Anyway, as I went to bed an idea for the first post came to me, yay! Love this!

We didn't ever cook for her, but I do have a lovely little essay I wrote last winter that I'm going to post today.

Happy Mother's Day to all you who are mothers and to your mother's too. ; )

Happy Mother's Day!
My mum lives 6 hours away so it was just a long phone call (so great catching up with her-- we don't do it enough).

I sent my mother flowers. Tulips are much more preferable than the perfume I gave her when I was eight. It smelled like feet (I thought it smelled nice). :) Hope you had a great Mother's Day!

We celebrate our Mother's Day back in March, however my own mother lives in South Africa and is the only one of her friends to receive three cards (from her children in the UK) in March and nothing when everyone else does in May.

We had afternoon tea. My daughter may be overseas this time next year so it was special for my mother and I to have her with us.

Happy Belated Mother's Day!

Flowers are always good! I like the term box of chockies! Beaches are great but no chockie on the beach as it'll melt too fast.

Kittie: Ah, that burnt toast! Luckily we didn't have fire alarms then!

Catherine: Oh, that sound lovely. An aperitivo, Spritz Campari sounds just right for Italy.

Tracy: Thanks, to you too. I hope you had a great time with your son.

Zan Marie: I will get over to read your post.

Deniz: Thanks. Anything beachy is great.

Ellie: Yeah, I didn't know it was so different in the UK.

Lynda: I'm sure mum appreciated it. No, we all need to stay in touch more than we do.

Alleged Author: The tulips sound lovely!

Damyanti: Thanks so much!

Debs: It's such a wonder we don't all celebrate it on the same day. Must be a little strange for your mum.

Pam: Enjoy every moment I say.

Sylvia: I sure did thanks.

Lisa: Yeah, so right. Leave the chockies at home but not in the fridge!

Hi, my friend. I finally got over here, the day AFTER Mother's Day. It was a peaceful day for me and Jen, though Jen didn't feel well so we didn't go to church. My mother died at age 97 almost ten years ago. She was an interesting woman who will probably be in my next memoir, if I ever get to it! No burnt toast or sugary tea for her, though. But I do remember how zealous those mothers' days were when I was a teenager.

I so appreciate your enthusiasm for my memoir. 8 days away if WiDo comes through on time. Wow.

Yes, it is almost summer here. Temps still in the low 70s. Just lovely, and so green with all the rain we've had. We just went out for a ride in our van. Jen needed to get out of the house.

I just told her you're almost winter in Australia. This afternoon I pulled some pages out of an old World Atlas and tossed the rest; pages that show the world (flat). I really need to learn geography again. I'd like a globe. We're on one page, you're on the other--a very long ways away! And yet through the miracle of the computer we can communicate in an instant. Amazing.

I hope I can do the romance thing. I know I have some poems, but I'm not good with romantic stories; I'm usually not good coming up with something on a topic. BTW, I did buy today an e-copy of 100 Stories of Queensland. I'm excited to read them. You probably know more of the contributors than I do, so many I can make some new friends. I just need to find the time to do all the writing and reading I want to do!

I hope you had a lovely mother's day, Denise. I wasn't able to see my mother on Sunday but I called her and spoke for some time. It was nice to hear her voice.

Ann: Such a lovel letter. I'm glad you and Jen had a great Mother's Day. Yes, it is wonderful to make friendships from around the globe -people we may never meet but who we feel we know.

You may read my post and see that it doesn't have to be all lovey-dovey for the RFW's post.

Looking forward to reading whatever you manage to write!

Talli: Thanks youngster!

Jai: It was lovely that you and mum got to have a talk on her day!
