Father's Day in the Southern Hemisphere

It is Father's Day in the Southern Hemisphere, so I'm saying Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! Sadly my father, one of my all-time heroes, is passed on, but he lives on in my heart.

Have been having lovely celebs today with the whole family together, lunching, browsing books at the Brisbane Writer's Festival book display, shopping and having dinner together tonight.

So hope your Father's Day has been great, Aussies and New Zealanders, and anyone else who celebrates this important day today.

And all you fathers in Christchurch New Zealand who saw your beautiful city toppled by a 7-scale earthquake yesterday, our thoughts and prayers are with you. We ourselves are very thankful that our daughter left to come home three days before the earthquake hit.

Happy Father's Day!

your day sounds so awesome.

i accidently fell asleep for a few hours after lunch (was lovely though - just felt bad that I was the one resting on fathers day).

and so glad your daughter is fine and safe. The NZ earthquake is so huge!

I love Father's Day. I guess that's because I'm a father. :-)

I hope all who were hit by the earthquake get their live back to normal asap. Where I live in California, USA I've been through some big ones!

I am glad you had a good day with your family and that your daughter is safe. There is a lot to be thankful for in your family this Father's Day.
Also I just wanted to let you know I posted the award you gave me today.
Again thank you so much for thinking of me.

It is a great blessing to have/have had a great father, good for you.

I heard about the earthquake and was flabbergasted. I didn't know that area got them. Maybe I'm uninformed there....

Here, it's Labor Day. Either way, I hope you have a great week. Glad you got to spend some time with family...

I have something for you over on my blog...

Culture served raw: Nice one, dad, getting to nap!

Will: Yes, I always thought it was the same everywhere until the Americans started posting Father's Day wishes earlier in the year.

Jane and Jules: Thank you. It would be terrifying to be a young kid in a strange place going through an earthquake, so I'm so pleased she didn't have to go through it..:)

What a lovely post:)

I still celebrate my Father's Day, in June, here. He died rather young. Here's to all fathers!

I'm also thinking about the earthquake victims in Christchurch. Glad your daughter is safe and sound at home.

Nomes: Glad that you got your rest, ha, ha. Looks like Christchurch isn't over yet, poor things..:)

Aubrie: Father's Day is alive and well..:)

Herding Cats: thank you!

Summer: Yes, but what can we say to those who live in Christchurch? Poor things, with all their plumbing broken. Could get nasty!

Old Geezer: (LOve that name!) NZ actually has 15,000 earthquakes a year and one city (Napier) was flattened about 100 yrs ago. Very shaky isle as we say. Even Oz has the odd tremor lately..:)

Lenny: It must be one of the scariest things to wake in darkness to find yourself thrown across the room. One child was thrown out of the house but he survived. Thanks for you comment..:)

Pamela Jo: I'll be across to check out your post re your award. Thanks for commenting..:)

Boonie: Thanks for your good wishes..:)

Thanks for sharing this. I didn't know Father's Day was on this date in Australia and New Zealand. I'm happy to hear there were no casualties in NZ. Material things can be replaced but not lives.
